January East Side Drum Classes Start
Tues Jan 12 & Thurs Jan 14...... to March 9 & 11
(break Feb 16 & 18 for the Olympics)
7-9pm, for 8 weeks

Both classes are at the beautiful yoga studio at 1461 Venables, just E of Clark

Choose Tues or Thurs night, or interchange them. 2 nights for the price of 1!

Or take 2 classes a week if you want!!

The price is $120 for the 8 week session. Add $15 if you use a drum

The amount is payable at the beginning of the session,
Pay in full, or half up front / half as a postdated chq for Feb, if you need.

In this Winter session we will continue to deepen in rhythmic strength and skill, as well as journeying into magical spaces, receiving the healing powers of the music.

Classes will be mixed levels. Intermediate players will be challenged and Beginning players will be given appropriate parts. There will be a 30 minute session for beginners, and a 30m session for intermediate drummers at class #1.

This Session's Rhythm Medicine will be:

~ New Brazilian African Roots Samba with Breaks, on drums, shakers, bells
~ Ceremonial Songs and Chants for the Earth
~ New Afro Funk
~ Zimbabwe Song and Rhythm

DRUMMING WITH NAVARO East Side Classes Tuesdays, 7-9pm Nov 17 - Dec 22
6- week session $90, add $10 if you use a drum. Classes at 1461 Venables at Clark Beginners as well as intermediate drummers are welcome. This class is designed to integrate mixed levels. The session price can be paid in two installments for those who need: Half at the beginning and half in a postdated chq. for the following month. Some drop-in is possible but it is preferred that you sign up for the whole session. You can make-up missed classes on Thursday nights with me at my Coal Harbour classes. Info below. The Nov/Dec class is usually smaller and more intimate. We will not work toward a performance, but some sort of rhythm journey and potluck at the last class, that we can invite friends to to dance or enjoy the healing energy of the music.

Please note: Both Classes can do make-ups at the other class for those who sign up for the full session

Fall Drumming with Navaro Downtown West Side Classes At Coal Harbour Community Center Thursdays 730-9pm Nov 12 thru Dec 17th 6-week session By drop-in $17 or Session Price Register with Coal Harbour My Thurs night class at Coal Harbour Community Center is a smaller class that works well for drop-in, or commit to the 6-week session for the session price. Mixed levels are welcome. In this smaller class there is room for individual attention and focus on technique. We cover rhythm fundamentals, hand technique, and experience the power and healing energies of African rhythms and chants. Each class will cover a self contained body of music. The group of 6 classes will give a beautiful rooting into a variety of musics from Africa and the Diaspora (the migration of African music throughout the world). The blessing of the Drum and the Earth will be experienced in the intimacy of the class setting.

The ancestors are alive now in the land. They are alive in us. They left no monuments, here, but they are not erased.....We can hear their voices in the wind and water, in the soil and trees, in the voices of the animals....in our own bodies and spirits. When we slow down and come into resonance with the longer, deeper rhythms of Earth, we have access to all knowledge, all memory, all Knowing. Gaia's (Earth's) body is strengthened by our physical joy, and by our awareness of her as a living, conscious being. Her strength is our strength. Her health is our children's legacy.

Earth Prayers Ecstatic Dance Journey Sept 2007

This work is inspired by Tribal earth based traditions of rhythm, chant, dance, and ceremony, as well as by many other healing ecstatic dance practices…with the specific focus of honoring the Earth and ourselves as One With Earth. This month we dance at Equinox, the time of The Great Balance.

Our ancestors expected to be instructed by the Earth and the natural world. When we slow down and come into resonance with the longer, deeper rhythms of Earth, we have access to all knowledge, all memory, all knowing. We will dance to deepen into body consciousness and resonate into these spaces. We will dance to awaken our bodies and honour earth, sending our joy and prayers to living Gaia. We will dance intentionally to break out of limiting trance and open into harmony with the beauty, power, and grace of our true Natures.
