Please Come Out To Vote on Nov 19.  (and a personal Gregor Robertson story)

I want to put in a good word for Gregor Robertson.  I lived for 3 years in a small community on Cortes Island at the same time as Gregor and his wife Amy.  I knew them then only as neighbours, drum students and bandmates with me in Gordy Ryan's Island Rhythm, as local farmers and heritage seed savers, and hugely as really decent, warm, family, earth, and community connected people. Gregor has done everything he could since in office as our Mayor to green this city.  A mutual Cortes friend who is also one of his supporters just recently told me that there is mega money coming into town for advertising designed to trainwreck his public image and take him down....to replace him with people that will not be friendly to the Arts, Culture, Community, and the greening or caring for the land our city is on and in. Please check Gregor out, and vote him and his party members in! - If you feel it's right.
Check this out about Gregor (who is also the guy, with his family, who runs and owns the local Happy Planet Juice Co.)

TONIGHT!  (Sept 8)  Raquy & the Caveman at the Wise Hall.  Friends from the World Rhythm Fest Seattle, Raquy is my favorite female drummer in the world! And Liron is incredible, too. Together she and bandmate Liron create a stunning visual and sonic show. Super innovative, quirky, expert, tribal and fun!   I love things that are strongly based in tradition but also newly shaped.

                        DRUMMING, PULSATION, HEALING, & COMMUNITY
                        Thurs Sept 22, 7-9pm

Each night can be taken individually, or take both workshops for a deeper exploration of the material.  We will learn Tribal rhythms and chants, and practice technical aspects of rhythm to understand the principles of pulsation, connection, and healing within the music.  These are basic energies that tribal people recognize and use rhythm for.  These things are not normally verbalized.  These workshops explore the music and its purpose in depth, while also teaching rhythm and drum technique.

HAPAPALOOZA MIXED ROOTS FESTIVAL, Sept 9, 10, 11
Various locations, many art forms...supported by In the House Festival creator, Naomi Steinberg

There are ticketed events with films and many performers of varying disciplines, as well as many free events.  Location Robson Square and Roundhouse. Check website for more info.

Hapapalooza is a festival celebrating the diversity and blending of race and culture.  'Hapa' is a Hawaiian term for a person of mixed descent.  Originally it meant a white and native mix.  As a hapa myself (I am Philipeno and Dutch, raised in Germany and Vancouver), I am very curious about what happens when very different bloodlines come together, and the diverse and unusual perspectives and creativity that it brings.  Vancouver is prime Hapa territory!

Link from local hapa Tarun Nayar of band Delhi to Dublin talking up the festival:

                        THE ELMS ON 6TH AVENUE

An inspiring story of human love and power protecting the Earth - right in our East side neighbourhood!

For many blocks, these trees create a beautiful canopy, and attract love and enjoyment from people in the neighbourhood as well as many who prioritize walking down these streets, just to be with the trees.

Earlier this year city trucks pulled up and began orange flag tape ribboning many trees to be destroyed.  I was there the day they arrived.  It felt just like my past - living beside gorgeous forests in the country, that were later clearcut right beside me. 31 trees on 6th Avenue from E of Commercial were targeted.

The neighbourhood joined together, informed themselves, and challenged the city.  As a result, over many months of meetings with Parks board and City officialdom, only 6 trees were cut down, instead of 31!!  Victory and affirmation of life!  Read the touching and empowering story on the Facebook page below.  My personal name for the Elm Canopied 6th Avenue is "Pandora Street" - after the mythical planet of James Cameron's movie, Avatar.

Working on a Blueways project earlier this year, which aims to 'daylight' city streams running now in pipes under the streets, I learned that 6th Avenue is one of the streets that has an underground waterway.  When you walk there at night you can hear the water tumbling along below the street, as you pass the manholes.  And you become aware that you can sense the stream.  It's partly why the Elms thrive there.  And it's magic.

Read the inspiring story on:  Save Our Elms Facebook Page

This is a Fundraiser to bring Kurai's Zimbabwean daughter here from Africa.  Funds raised will help complete the exorbitant legal fees, paperwork, and plane tickets to fetch her and bring her here.  There is a situation of urgency which you can read about on the Facebook Page.

Tzvi's Place is a private home where one can:
~ Flow from one room to another to hear different musics, or dance to DJ'd music downstairs

You get the picture?  A place to be fully human.  No curtain calls, no seats in rows, no curfew because the rental time is up.  Tzvi described a recent event as a space where the division between performer and audience is blurred, or removed.

Check the Facebook Invitation below.  We are inviting donations of support ahead of time also.  To date over $2100 has been raised.  Several thousand $ are needed for legal fees and 2 return tickets.  Info on page to donate.

Here are links to a few of my favorite raw food teacher's sites.
The Raw Food movement is a source of cutting edge health info which I resource daily.

I eat about 70% raw and give myself freedom to eat whatever else I want, which is (mostly) simple and healthy.  Been practicing this for about 7 years.  When I eat food fresh, whole, and in its natural state, I feel more attuned to nature, and my own body wisdom, and being truly human (ie intelligent, conscious, clear, love vibration).  It clears my thinking as well.

Also related to Willow's Cognitive Science research, info from the Heart Math Institute, quoted in this informative documentary on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkbvJFEQgJU        forward to the 52:20 time mark

Heart Math Institute has found that the heart is a perceiving organ, and part of the brain's system of perception.  Neural cells flow from heart to brain and back.

Another important piece of info from the documentary Kymatica, above, is that the primary function of DNA lies not in protein synthesis, as was widely believed for the past 100 years, but in electromagnetic energy reception and transmission.  In our very DNA we are designed to be connected to the world and people around us, and to the entire universe, in a flow of energy transmission and communication.

TOWARDS EDEN FESTIVAL, SUMMER 2011    And my first website BLOG!

I am so excited!  I just started my blog page on my new site, with the first entry.  Please check it out!  Writing is my next career.  I'm serious!

The story on this blog comes from a couple of magical experiences I had at Towards Eden Festival in the interior of BC this summer.

I saw mysterious moving lights in the forest, had a transformative experience dancing to Adham Shaikh, and encountered an altar on the pathway with Love Messages To The Ocean.
